FAQs

Q - How much does Senior Super Camp cost?

A - The cost of the trip is estimated to be $350 and should be paid by May 31st, 2024.  The final cost depends on final numbers and plans.  Make a check out to your local ward with Senior Super Camp written in the Other category.

We do not want to preclude anyone from attending due to cost.  If there are concerns about the expense, please reach out to your bishop or a member of the stake presidency.

Q - Is this trip for me?

A - This trip is considered a "High Adventure" trip.  We will be safe, and we will have fun, but it will require you to be engaged, and comfortable with adventure situations.  You may be in the water during rapids, you may need to swim back to a raft, and you will be camping each night.  If this all just got you even more excited, then YES!

Q - Do I need to know how to swim to participate?

A - Yes. Personal flotation devices (PFDs) will be provided and are required at all times while on the water.  However, the ability to swim and comfort being in fast-moving water is required to participate.

Q - Is the river dangerous?

A - No activity (on the water or not) is without risk, however we are making every effort to maximize safety.  The river we will be rafting on contains class II-III rapids, which means they are moderate to intermediate in difficulty. Class II rapids have clear channels that are easy to navigate, while Class III rapids have irregular waves and narrow passages that require more skill and maneuvering.  We will have experienced rafting guides will review maps of the rapids each morning to decide on the best paths to navigate the river in the safest way possible.

As part of the experience, you will be in the river.  Whether jumping out to cool off, falling out during a rapid, or being pulled out by friends, expect to get wet and have fun!

Q - Will I need to find a ride to Idaho?

A - There will be several adult volunteers participating in this event and we anticipate having enough drivers and vehicles to shuttle youth to and from the event.  Parents - If you are willing to transport youth to and from Idaho, please contact Spencer Fowers (spencer.fowers@gmail.com)

Q - How will I relieve myself while on the river?

A - We will cover this topic in more detail in our in-person meetings.  Urine goes in the river, solid waste goes in the portable toilet (called a "groover") that we will carry with us for the entire trip.  At a few campsites and stops along the route, there will be pit toilets available as well.

Q - How we will manage any waste, garbage, or used feminine hygiene products?

A - Rafters must pack out everything (that means everything) down to the ash from our fires and the waste from the "groover".  That will include feminine hygiene products, so make note of this when determining which personal care products to bring. It is a good idea to bring a zip lock bag to transport trash while on the river.

Q - What will I need to pack?

A - You can find the packing list here.  In our in-person meetings before the trip, we will bring a sample packed dry bag so you can see the size of the bag, and what a typical rafter would bring.

Q - Will there be an opportunity to shower or bathe while on the river?

A - There are no showers or baths, however their is plenty of water to wash with :-).  You should bring eco-friendly soap and can use provided buckets to haul water from the river to rinse yourself off at least 100 feet from the shore.  You should wear your bathing suit while lathering up and rinsing off.

Q - What will the schedule be for the week?

A - You can find our schedule here.

Q - How many miles will we be rafting?

A - From our put in at Vinegar Creek to the take out at Hammer Creek is ~60 miles.

Q - Will YM and YW be camping together?

A - YM and YW will spend the days together on the river but at night (per the handbook) they will be camped at separate sites.  The river is wide with large camping areas that will make this possible.  Adult couples and leaders will be interspersed throughout the campsites.

Q - Can I bring my phone?

A - You're welcome to bring your phone but it's highly recommended you keep it in the dry bag provided to you while on the river.  There is minimal cell coverage while on the river, and plenty of chances to drop your phone in the water, so we will provide a secured dry bag where we'll store all of the phones during the trip.  There is also no electricity, so don't expect your phone battery to last the full trip unless you keep it turned off.  It is recommended you bring a waterproof camera such as a GoPro to take photos while on the trip, rather than using your phone.  If you'd like to have it on the river consider bringing a waterproof case
